(TFO press release)

MOSUL, IRAQ (June 24, 2004) – A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Wednesday to celebrate the completion of renovations to the Ibn Alathyr Hospital in eastern Mosul.

The hospital, which specializes in maternity and pediatric care, treats approximately 600 patients each day and has about 300 beds for inpatient care. Recent renovations include improvements to the laboratories and teaching facilities and the installation of air-conditioning for the comfort of the patients.

“We are gradually trying to improve each section of our hospital, including the wards, the x-ray department and the labs, to provide better care to our patients,” said hospital director Abdulridha Al Kazaz.

Ibn Alathyr is the oldest pediatric hospital in Mosul. The hospital’s 17 doctors and other medical staff provide care to a large number of residents in eastern Mosul.

Improving medical care for local residents is an important step in moving toward a secure and stable future for the country of Iraq.

There were three photos included with the press release that I will try and post later.
