THROOP, N.Y. -- Robert F. Stryker was a Vietnam war hero who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor, the nation's highest military decoration.

In 2002, the Army further honored him by naming its new Interim Armored Vehicle, the "Stryker."

Now, Stryker's final resting place finally looks like it belongs to a hero.

For years, local veterans groups have been raising money for the creation of a monument to honor Stryker. On Sunday, they gathered at Pine Hill Cemetery in Throop to dedicate the new memorial.

For Rick Spriggs, the Stryker memorial was "a big realization of a golden goal" he's held since 1999.
