Thursday's intravenous-injection training at Camp Marez gave one soldier from the 133rd Engineer Battalion a rare opportunity to stick it to the media.

With 31 people in the class, it was impossible for everyone to break into pairs. Sgt. Michael Francis of Indian Island suggested drafting a volunteer - maybe the guy with the notebook.

"I've done this twice before," Francis told me reassuringly, as he broke out the needle and tapped the vein inside my left elbow. "About eight years ago."

The gathering crowd loved it. The patient gulped and closed his eyes.

Less than two minutes later, the intravenous fluid was flowing smoothly - and it didn't hurt a bit.

Fine soldier, that Sgt. Francis.

Nemitz goes on to talk about the engineering unit.
