As details about Tuesday's attack on a 133rd Engineer Battalion convoy continue to emerge, it's clear that the soldiers in the convoy did everything they were trained to do in fending off an attack.

Among several acts of heroism, one stands out: Lt. Matthew Delk, a member of South Carolina's 268th Engineer Firefighters Detachment who is assigned to the 133rd, pulled two Maine soldiers away from their burning Humvee while an estimated dozen insurgents fired on the stalled convoy.

One of the soldiers, Spc. Christopher Gelineau of Portland, died from multiple trauma and head injuries while being taken to a military hospital in Baghdad. The other, Spc. Craig Ardry of Pittsfield, is expected to recover from his wounds, which include a broken femur.
