Coalition Forces provide funding

MOSUL, IRAQ (Apr. 20, 2004) – Task Force Olympia is working on, or planning almost 70 new water, sewage, education and healthcare projects for the people of Mosul using the Overseas Humanitarian Disaster And Civic Aid (OHDACA) fund, which provides money for projects to meet the basic needs of people overseas. These are dollars mandated by the United States Congress for overseas aid.

Iraqi contractors, and community and religious leaders work side by side with Coalition Forces to identify projects to improve the quality of life for local Iraqi citizens.

Fifteen projects are already underway including six well projects that bring clean drinking water to the villages of Deraston, Kharma, Badria, Sufanyah, Um kahif, and Fishkhaboor. The other nine projects are school renovations for Al Arman Primary School, Al Bartool Secondary School,A Hassen bin Ali Primary School, Al harya Primary School, Al Shaded Kindergarten, Babinet Primary School, and Bashiqa Primary School. Al Janeen Primary School and Al Bayariq Primary School had their ribbon cutting ceremonies on April 18. These 15 projects total $459, 995.

On April 2, four water distribution projects were approved at $135,041. Seven sewage projects worth $275,225 were also approved, along with five school projects, a hospital renovation, and some emergency response equipment for $246,850. The funding required for these 18 projects totaled $657,116.

On April 15, five sewage projects totaling $271,015 were approved as well as four school projects worth $106164. A water distribution project was also approved on April 15, worth $24,999. The total funding required for these 10 projects is $402,178.

Additional projects awaiting approval include six schools, three water projects, six health care projects, seven well projects, an air conditioning project at Mosul University, a repair project at Al Amal Institute and a project for an institute for blind children. All of these projects will cost approximately $1,911,012.

The total federal dollars coming from OHDACA funding will be $3,430,301.
