MOSUL, IRAQ (Apr. 19, 2004) – Soldiers from 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team) detained five people wanted for anti-Coalition activities and collected a variety of weapons and munitions as Iraqi police foiled and improvised explosive device attack Sunday in northern Iraq.
At a traffic control point south of Rabiyah, Soldiers from 1st Squadron, 14th Cavalry detained four men suspected of planning and conducting attacks against Coalition forces. One of the detainees is a suspected financier of anti-Coalition attacks.
Local leaders in Bazona village southwest of Hammam Al Alil led Soldiers of 1st Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment to the residence of a suspected planner of anti-Coalition activities where he was detained. At his residence, Soldiers discovered a cache of weapons that included one rocket propelled grenade, two RPG high explosive rounds, one grenade and one IED.
Children led Soldiers of 2nd Battalion, 3rd Infantry Regiment to a weapons cache northwest of Palistine neighborhood that consisted of two rocket propelled grenades hidden in the bottom of a well.
A facility protective guard led the same unit to a weapons cache in Al Arabe that consisted of three mortars and one RPG round.
Iraqi Police in Tall Afar discovered an IED near the Sobi Police Station. The IED was destroyed and no injuries were reported.
