MOSUL, IRAQ (Apr. 14, 2004) –Iraqi security forces and Soldiers from 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team) foiled two IED attacks and collected a variety of weapons and munitions Tuesday in northern Iraq. The brigade is under the operational control of Task Force Olympia.
Iraqi Police discovered an improvised explosive device west of Al Wahda neighborhood consisting of a mortar round connected to an initiation device. The IED was removed and no injuries were reported.
Soldiers from the 293rd Military Police Company discovered an IED connected to a remote detonating system south of the Wahda neighborhood in Mosul. The IED was removed and no injuries were reported.
Soldiers from the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Infantry Regiment discovered and removed a weapons cache south of the Mosul Airfield consisting of 106 60mm mortar rounds and a pre-positioned mortar tube.
Coalition forces conducted a raid in the southern neighborhood of Al Ghizlanic and confiscated 17 60mm mortar rounds and 19 fuses.
