Iraqi Police, Stryker Brigade Operations

MOSUL, IRAQ (Apr. 12, 2004) – Iraqi Police and Soldiers from 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team) killed eight anti-Coalition forces and collected a variety of weapons and munitions Sunday in northern Iraq.

The brigade is under the operational control of Task Force Olympia.

An Iraqi Police patrol killed three anti-Coalition forces after the assailants attacked them with small arms fire and rocket propelled grenades in the Al Shifa neighborhood. Police later confiscated one RPG, two AK-47s and four hand grenades from the attackers.

Soldiers from 2nd Battalion, 3rd Infantry Regiment killed four anti-Coalition forces after they attacked a traffic control point with small arms fire in the neighborhood of Shikh Abu. No Coalition Soldiers were injured during the attack.

Soldiers from 1st Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, killed a man attempting to emplace an improvised explosive device and confiscated one AK-47 and two magazines in the neighborhood of Uhud.

A concerned citizen came to soldiers of 116th RAOC at a traffic control point north of Albu Saff and turned in four 60mm mortar rounds and one anti-personnel mine.

The Iraqi Police discovered a weapons cache consisting of two 155mm artillery rounds in the southern section of Al Wahda and removed them.

Soldiers from 1st Battalion, 37th Field Artillery Regiment detained four people for violating the mandatory curfew and turned them over to the Iraqi Police. The curfew is from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.
