MOSUL, IRAQ (Apr. 11, 2004) – Iraqi Police, Iraqi Civil Defense Corps and Soldiers from 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team) killed four and detained nine anti-Coalition forces Saturday in Mosul. The brigade is under the operational control of Task Force Olympia.
Two people were wounded and detained for illegally wielding one AK-47, a rocket propelled grenade and two hand grandees near Mosul University. They both died later in the hospital due to their injuries.
Two men were detained by Iraqi Police after attacking a police station in the Tamooz neighborhood of Mosul. No Iraqi Police were injured during the attack.
Soldiers from 1st Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment detained five people who attacked them with small arms fire after the Soldiers discovered an improvised explosive device planted in the road. Later that day, Soldiers detained one more assailant who attacked them with a rocket propelled grenade and small arms fire after discovering another IED. Both IEDs were successfully destroyed.
Soldiers from the 18th Engineer Company killed two and wounded one person as they attempted to run a traffic control point and ignored the soldiers’ orders to stop the vehicle northwest of Al Nasr neighborhood in Mosul.
Soldiers of 1st Battalion, 37th Field Artillery Regiment discovered one anti-tank mine and destroyed it approximately 45 kilometers southeast of Makhmur.
