BRIDGEPORT -- Connecticut is honoring a hometown hero. Army specialist Tyanna Avery-Felder was stationed in Iraq. T he 22-year-old from Bridgeport was killed in the city of in Mosul.

Governor Rowland ordered flags across the state to be at half-staff in honor Avery-Felder.

Channel 3 Eyewitness News reporter Leon Collins spent the day in Bridgeport speaking with people who knew her.

Avery-Felder's family and friends spent mot of the day in seclusion at the family's Orange St. home in Bridgeport mourning the passing of their daughter, sister, and friend.

Army officials say the young specialist who was a cook, died in an army hospital in Iraq a few days after her unit, the Striker Brigade, was hit by enemy fire while in convoy.
