Band of Brothers

Mar-25-2004 » Filed Under: General Military , Link of Interest

If you don't subscribe to HBO you may have missed the mini-series "Band of Brothers", which is based on the book of the same name by Stephen Ambrose. Consequently, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that The History Channel will broadcast the entire series - twice - beginning Sunday, April 11th. The station will run all 10 episodes, each approximately an hour long, on consecutive nights. To learn more about the story you can go to this entry that I wrote a while back on my old site. The story, and the series, are truly epic.

Comments For "Band of Brothers":

Awesome! I really wanted to see this. Up until a week ago, I didn't have HBO or The History Channel. Now I have both. Thanks for the info...if it weren't for you, I would have missed it.

I think a good movie rental store would have a copy available as well. I'd like to get the DVD version to see if it includes any extras. The most amazing part of the series, for me, was listening to the interviews with the surviving members of Easy company. Brings tears to your eyes. Best movie I've ever seen, bar none.

I remember the Emmy's the year the show won a bunch of awards. The producers had rented a hotel conference room for all of the surviving vets to watch the awards show. They were clapping and hollering. Many of these guys had never shared their experiences before Ambrose wrote the book, even with their families.

Wow, I have goosebumps. I'm really looking forward to watching the series. Yes, it is available on DVD. I had looked at it, but ouch, thought I'd save the money for care packages right now. Eventually, I'd like to buy it for my son...not until all this is over and he's home, though. Thanks again!

It's painful to watch - on par with Saving Private Ryan. Not surprising since Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg were the producers of the mini-series.

I ordered HBO back when it first came out just to tape the series. I had read the book first but for those of you that have not seen it, please watch it. Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg did this justice and it is the most incredible movie/series I have ever seen. Very life like and a true story. These soliders were amazing and get your tissues. I have seen the DVD set at Walmart for 80.00 I think with alot of extras including all the interviews with some of the soldiers who were there and are still alive.

I have rented the first eight episodes- two to go, and can't say enough on behalf of this series. Platoon, Glory, even Saving Private Ryan couldn't stir my emotions the way this series has. It approaches the pride, fear, anquish and confusion I felt watching the Little Roundtop and Picket's Charge scenes of Gettysburg.
I just hope History Channel doesn't edit too much

Thanks so much for the information...my husband is in the 1452nd NCNG Trans Co (HET)...they were deployed in Feb. 04, my son is with the Strykers, 3rd, 2ndID in Mosul...this is something we have been wanting to watch...thanks again, Pam Hughes
