KIHEI - It's not that there isn't any sun or sand in Iraq, but Army Sgt. Cory Lee Kalani Kapahulehua enjoyed the climate and environment a lot more when he was home on Maui for a 10-day leave.
It was just enough time to get a little tropical sun wearing shorts instead of combat gear and to be with his 4-year-old son, Kalani, as well as taking a trip to Washington to introduce the boy to snow.
Kapahulehua, 22, headed back to duty in Mosul in northern Iraq on March 3 and was back in-country on Monday.
"It's been a real emotional roller coaster ride for me," said his mother, Kristi Kapahulehua.
