Editor's note: This is an excerpt of a column by Executive Editor David Zeeck, welcoming our military reporter Mike Gilbert back from Iraq. We thought it might be of interest to our Stryker brigade readers.

Mike Gilbert is back from Iraq.

Our military affairs writer has spent nearly six months in Iraq in the last year, first with the 62nd Medical Brigade, most recently with the Stryker brigade from Fort Lewis.

He arrived home Wednesday night, on a C-17 from McChord Air Force Base that flew direct from Mosul, Iraq, to Germany, then to Savannah, Ga., then home to Tacoma.
