Comments For "TFO detains three suspects, collects weapons":
For those in the Stryker family who wanted to know, the soldier injured in this incident was my son, PV2 Seth A. Tribble. He is in B/5/20 IN. He spoke with me by phone from his hospital bed. The injuries were caused by shrapnel from the grenade. As he tells it, the 'Hadji's' (sp?) are in the habit of throwing rocks at our troops. We are in the habit of throwing them back.
He heard a soft thunk in the mud next to him and thought it was a rock. As he bent down to pick it up he saw that it was a grenade. He yelled a warning to the other guys and started to run. The grenade went off about 4-6 feet from him.
As I got the whole story later, he jumped up and returned fire in the direction from which the grenade was tossed. The rest of the squad lit up the range in that direction. As his Squad Leader (SGT Young) told it, after about 30-40 rounds, PV2 Tribble sat down and said, "Hey, I think I'm kinda hurt here." They went into medevac overdrive and got him stabalized and transported to the Army hospital in Mosul.
He suffer about a dozen punture wounds in the leg and several in the arm. Nothing required more than extraction of the splinters and stitches. He was to be discharged back to his company today.
I commend the leadership of PV2 Tribble's company for rapid response to his injuries. They called me as soon as they cleared from the mission. I spoke with his squad leader, platoon sergeant and platoon leader. The next morning I got a call from the DoA Casualty Notification Office. All this within a matter of hours after the incident. I couldn't be prouder of this brigade and how well this was handled.
My personal gratitude goes out to COL Rounds, brigade commander, who awarded Tribble the Purple Heart, and BG Hamm who visited PV2 Tribble and took a personal interest in having him treated like a king. I am proud to say that this is my Army at its best.

Yes, MAJ Tribble, your words do bring comfort to a Mom, and the reassurance she needs to hear that her son will be taken care of by his fellow troops and command while she can't be there to help him.
Thank you for sharing your story! I'm glad to hear Seth will be okay, and I'll continue to pray specifically for his speedy recovery and continued blessings!
Take Care!

Sir,
i am very happy to read that your son is on his way back to the fight, and that your family received prompt information regarding Seth. I am unfamiliar with the 'new' guys in B-Co, but have not always been. My husband is attached to 5/20 still in a different capacity, but upon our arrival to Ft.Lewis almost 3 yrs ago, he wa the Platoon Leader for 2nd Platoon B-Co under the battalion command of Lt Col Choppa (now Lt Col Reed) and Col Rounds as the new BDE Commander. We've been fortunate to be assigned, stay with and claim 5/20 IN as our 'family' for 3 years ~ and when we leave here, the memories will be cherished ~ many of the B-Co guys were at my wedding! Please know that your son (and the sons of all 5/20 families out there) are in VERY capable hands ~ thier own and the command chain above them.
Best wishes to you, Seth and your family Sir,
A 5/20 IN wife and supporter
