Eight weeks ago, Liz Jackson decided she wanted to send care packages from local police and fire departments to the local troops in Iraq.
She started calling departments - and got a lot of support.
Saturday, Jackson and several dozen volunteers put together 18 shipping boxes full of T-shirts, photos and grateful letters from firefighters and police officers. This week, she'll mail them to her friends in the Stryker brigade.
"We wanted messages from our stateside heroes to our heroes in the desert sand," Jackson said Saturday, pleased that the project worked out so well.
