We wanted to highlight a portion of an article we linked to yesterday written by embedded reporter Michael Gilbert. He described some of the efforts soldiers are making to improve the lives of Iraqis in Mosul, particularly children. Staff Sgt. Christopher Loverro, with help from volunteers back home, is trying to gather donations of school supplies and blankets to distribute. Provided below are the instructions included in the article if you would like to help:
The Fort Lewis-based Stryker brigade is accepting donations of blankets and school supplies for elementary-level children at the Ghizlani Community of Freedom.
Mark the package "Operation Pencil, Operation Blanket" and send it to:

Comments For "Operation Pencil, Operation Blanket":
Several of the artillery battalion's batteries are doing similar things and have similar needs -toys, candy, chalk, pencils, paper, pens, and sometimes clothing. If your soldier is in an FA battery, ask him if they could use it - this particular article highlights one particular housing development, but the whole darn country needs help with school supplies and the like, and all the patrols can use the goodwill of the kids (candy is good!)
I'm helping my 4th grade daughter's girl scout troop with outreach projects. I'd like the girls to support our troops. What's a good way to show our support? What does the Stryker Brigade need most?
As a 1/23rd Stryker dad my son who just returned from Mosel sent a lot of pitures of the children so my youngest son said we could help as cub scouts and we got the school involved to gather school supplies. My Cub Scout den has put together 3 or 4 boxes of school supplies and packaged them in 2 gallon zip lock bags--constuction paper, markers, colored pencils, etc etc etc---I've raised about $25 so far for the shipping charges which are just over $220----Is there a group who would want to help with the shipping costs?
