At Large?

Feb-27-2004 » Filed Under: Iraq News

I'm starting to feel like a broken record, but I just wanted to remind everyone that Geraldo is still in Iraq. I guess he was in Tikrit or Kirkuk recently and is planning on returning home from Turkey, so perhaps his exit strategy includes Mosul? Follow the link for show times etc.

(Thanks to Lorraine for the reminder)

UPDATE: Lorraine and others confirm that he is in Mosul. Tune in tonight.

Comments For "At Large?":

Hi Everyone! Well Geraldo is in Mosul with the Strykers! Saw Fox News this morning at 7am EST...he had called in as his convoy was ambushed!!!! and was waiting for help from the Strykers! He actually called about 5 minutes after the ambush. Everyone was okay, thank God.
Can't wait til tonight!

My son is in Mosul in the B Battery;, lst Battery, 37th FA, 3rd Brigade, 2nd Inf. in the SBCT and I hope he gets to see Rivera and that both are fine. Rivera is taking quite a risk for a newsman and I pray that he will come through and reach Turkey fine. I will be watching for him tonight and maybe a peek for my son. Tom

Geraldo has always been a bit over the top for my taste (remember Tora Bora?), but if he links up with the SBCT I'll gladly tune in.

We will be tuning in again this evening.
Hopefully we get a glipse of our son and
some of his friends. He is with HHC 1-23 INF,
3/2 SBCT. It has been great to see the
Soldiers that are out there making a
difference for the Iraqi people.

I have two nephews who are based out of Fort Lewis and currently serving in Iraq. One is with the Strykers and the other is with a support unit attached to the 4th ID. This comment is to warn you that unless you watch Foxnews 24/7 there is a slight chance you will miss a Geraldo broadcast with your soldier. On the other hand, since its the weekend, there is a good chance the Strykers will be the subject of the At large with Geraldo show tonight and tomorrow.

My nephew with the 4th ID's support group in the Tikrit area was in a Live broadcast a couple of days ago 1600 hrs Iraq time. Unfortunately, even though we knew in advance my nephew in the Tikrit area may be Foxnews with Geraldo, we did not know the exact time he would appear and did not think to watch it at 3:00 am our time. Hopefully, this same situation will not happen with your soldier.

I have attempted to contact Foxnews to see about obtaining a transcript of the segment, but so far Foxnews has been totally non-responsive. If I get a response from them I will provide an update.

Yep, Todd was right. The only thing that could redeem that program was if people from our Stryker family bulletin board saw their husbands, sons, or daughters standing (bored) behind Geraldo while he went on and on about his experiences. I have a feeling it might have been different if he hadn't had the snyper attack to focus on but he did not give much time to the strykers at all. There was more focus on Haiti than Mosul. Bummer.

Got a chuckle about his remark near the end... "The Stryker Brigade kicking but!"

Would have loved to see more SBCT and a lot less Geraldo. I assume it was some sort of HC company behind him because women were there. Any one know brothers named Hall? That was the only name I causght besides Lt. Col. Piek.

I am going to have to rewind my videotape of the broadcast to catch the name of the smart-aleck who put up the "Vote Regan" sign.... That made me laugh aloud, but I have a feeling he might get a bit of flack from his highers about that one! I'm glad that even though they all had to stand there and try to look interested, most of them had thier sense of humor intact at 6 am!

I had a long comment, then decided to delete it. Discretion is the better part of...

I sure hope a few family members got to see their soldiers. HOOAH!!!

You all know why we watched. Just in case we got to see one on our own. We had a feeling it would not be our son but it was worth seeing the soldiers and the styker FINALLY get on the news from their new home in Mosul. They all looked great, was not to impressed with any of the interview either, but getting to see where our soldiers are was great. And yes the best part of the program was the last comment " Strykers kick butt." Lets hope we get to see more tonight. The Moss Fans

I didn't watch the program, nor did I intend to. Sorry folks, I just can't get over what he did the first time around. So I checked out Michael Gilbert's article in the TNT this morning. You know, get my news from a reporter with integrity. So everyone tuned in to Rivera to see their soldier and instead get a story about HIS own experience. Is is newsworthy that Rivera's convoy was ambushed? Sure, but if your report is supposed to be about soldiers, then keep the focus there, after all it's our soldiers that are dealing with it every single day. Just seems a little selfish. After reading Gilbert's article, I am not impressed...stranding your injured driver because you want the vehicles in the picture? Guess it's a good thing that our guys took care of him. Telling soldiers to put their cameras away and "no smiling" "no mugging for the camera"? Give me a break, I'll take my chances elsewhere trying to spot my soldier.

I am just glad that some got to see their families. It is unfortunate that they had to set through the horrid antics of that individual.
I did watch it, with a lot of reservations, but figured even if I wouldn't get to see my husband that someone got to see theirs. So, sometimes the antics are worth it! (Besides the MUTE options is a wonderful thing.)
