Stryker Brigade Collects Arms

MOSUL, Iraq - Soldiers from 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team) under the operational control of Task Force Olympia recovered weapons and explosives during ongoing collection operations in northern Iraq Monday and Tuesday.

Members of the Coalition for Iraqi Unity, a concerned group of citizens in northwestern Iraq, came to the 1st Squadron, 14th Cavalry Regiment area of operations Monday and Tuesday and turned in 168 rocket-propelled-grenade warheads, two RPG launchers, 90 RPG boosters, 281 hand grenades, 663 60 mm mortar rounds, six 14.5 mm anti-aircraft guns, 200 14.5 mm rounds, one 105 mm artillery round, 30 122 mm artillery rounds, 129 90 mm rounds, four 120 mm mortar rounds, one RPG night sight and one mortar sight.

On Tuesday, a concerned Iraqi citizen came to 1st Squadron, 14th Cavalry Regiment headquarters in Tall Afar and turned in 40 82 mm mortar rounds and 40 mortar fuses.

In the ongoing effort to clear roads and keep the region safe for the Iraqi people and Coalition soldiers, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Infantry Regiment discovered an improvised explosive device southeast of Mosul. The IED was comprised of a 155 mm artillery round with a remote detonation system. Explosive ordnance disposal teams destroyed the device as well as two other 155 mm artillery rounds in the Mosul region.
