The whole reason they took these off the Family Resource Center site was due to possible security issues... should it really be on your site, if that is the case? If they're plugged into the FRG's they should be able to get it from them. I think maybe the brigade is being a little oversensitive to security, but I'd rather that then they be callous about it. They also are starting to be nasty about sites publishing stuff they don't feel is safe... so I'd be careful.
Folks, they aren't going to send out anything that is opposed to official policy or that contains anything that will give the bad guys any information they don't already know. The bad guys know where our soldiers are. They can see our troops every day. We have to guess where they are and wait for them to send us photos.
I have to agree w/ the poster stating to take the link down. They removed it from the sites due to OPSEC! It is not something to play with & you are putting the families at risk of not being provided with any information.
Anyone who is connected w/ the Brigade, be it spouse or parent or sibling, can get a copy of this news letter from the FRG's.
I am highly disappointed that you would post a link for this!
I have to put my agreement in with Steve on this one. First of all...has the original online newsletter site ever stated why they took off the previous links? If it was an OPSEC situation, shouldn't the newsletters that they are sending out to family members come with warnings not to send them on? Second of all for Tricia...all FRG's are definitely NOT created equal. Some are very good about getting information out to family members that request it, while others (probably with less volunteers) limit who they send to. If you read the bulletin board, you realize how many people (especially parents) are still trying to find out who to contact for information and how to get on the lists. We are all very thankful for the information posted here including the newsletters.
Sorry, but give me a break, Todd (if you dont know) is very thorough, I believe he got permission first! Otherwise it wouldnt ve here!
Safety first, We know! but its okay, & alot of people dont have contact with FRG & rely on this site.
Jenn is correct. I did speak to someone whose opinion I trust about posting the newsletters, otherwise we wouldn't do it. If you visit this site regularly you know we are very concerned about OPSEC and would not post something that we felt was out of bounds. Having said that, if we did get word from the brigade that an item here should be taken down we would do it in a nanosecond. That hasn't happened. My email is listed below and you are always welcome to contact me if you have additional questions or concerns.
Yes I do visit regularly. I am also AWARE of what is in the news letters. It was told to us that it was removed from the orinial site due to SECURITY REASONS/OPSEC. So, I don't know about you but if they remove it from a MILITARY site ... hmm?
As for it being posted here, 3rd Brigade has been notified,so it is there call now.
As for the FRG's ... being a military spouse, I know that not all FRG's are good at passing information. But I also know that FRG's are only as good as each of us choose to help make them!
I am sorry if you cannot understand my concern on this matter. The orginal site pulled it for the reasons stated above. I tend to trust the military personal who informed us of this information. As I am sure they have a good reason for doing this.
Tricia, I also trust the military personnel that told me it was ok to post the newsletters here. Obviously we have been receiving contradictory information, so hopefully we can get this cleared up soon. I will reiterate that it might be helpful for you to send ME an email so we can chat directly.
I understand that you (Todd) thought that you had gotten sufficient permission from authorities in Iraq to post it. Unfortunately, communication between Iraq and rear detachment isn't always what it should be; not every little matter gets consulted between the two to make sure they are on the same page. Rear detachment is how we get this newsletter; therefore they need to be consulted.
Speaking as an FRG leader, I know that the reason they stopped putting it on a website in the first place was due to OPSEC concerns. I know not all FRG's are equal - our company commander sent a letter to all our parents and all our wives with FRG contact info, but not everyone did that - but most are doing the best they can. If you're not in contact with your soldier's FRG, but are in contact with your soldier - ask him for the FRG contact (he can get it from his CO) so that you can get in touch to receive the newsletter.
I know you'd think that both sides (rear d and Iraq) would be able to coordinate, but the priorities are very different. Yes, they know where our soldiers are. But bad guys having personal information about our soldiers is BAD. So we want to avoid that.
Bottom line is: Would we rather be too careful (overdo it) or not careful enough? I think we all have to agree that it is better to be safe than sorry. I'd prefer rear d be overcautious than not cautious enough.
Well, since two, perhaps three separate people contacted the rear detachment about this site because of this issue I'm hoping we do get a definitive answer. I look forward to hearing it.

Mike & Todd are very careful. I trust them with the everything. If I EVER put those boys of the SBCT at risks I want ANYONE to let me know.
