OLYMPIA, Wash. — The deployment of the 81st Armored Brigade of the Washington National Guard to the Middle East will begin next month, officials have announced.
More than 3,500 personnel in the unit have been training at Fort Lewis since November and will be divided into four task forces to be sent to the Middle East in two waves, information officers said Tuesday in a community briefing on the state Capitol campus.
A deployment ceremony for the brigade is scheduled Feb. 7 at the Tacoma Dome.
