I thought I would pass along a couple unconventional care package possibilities that I found via Joe Katzman at Winds of Change. If your soldier has contact with the locals over there, consider the book, "Modern Iraqi Arabic: A Textbook," which includes audio CDs as well. A cheaper alternative is, "Your First 100 Words in Arabic," which comes with tear-out flashcards. For what it's worth.
Also, there has been some good care package advice on the bulletin board. Stop by if you haven't registered already.

Perfect!! I was just purchasing my husband some Stephen Kings books last night & thought, that next time I would purchase some Arabic books for my next care package!
I talked with my son this morning !!!!!! first time since they went in-country. I asked what he needed and he said magazines like People, USA Today etc-stuff that talks about what is going on in the world. They share them among the group and they like to read. Apparently they have received lots of cookies from the Girl Scouts and candy from several groups. He also mentioned a flashlight that you can clip on your hat. He had one and lost it in Kuwait but would like another one.
I just re-read what I wrote-sounded selfish-he told me that most of the folks would love these types of items. Those in the Engineers seem to be sharing quite a bit. And to the wife who has been sending homemade cookies regularly....thank you, you are an angel.
