Ad Experiment

Dec-30-2003 » Filed Under: Announcements

If you look over on the sidebar, you'll notice that I've added a few Google ads to the site. Google ads are randomly generated based on keywords found on the site, so I have no control over which ads appear (just in case you spot a weird one). They will be displayed on the home and archive pages.

The ads generate revenue for every click, so my hope is that this will offset the cost of maintaining the site and make it self-sustaining. Now, I am not allowed to solicit clicks, but if you happen to find one that's interesting, by all means check it out...once.

If this gets too irritating, or doesn't work, we'll move on to Plan B.

Comments For "Ad Experiment":

Todd, Clicking on the ads seems a no brainer and is fine as far as I'm concerned. Just out of curiosity what is plan B? Annie

Annie,

It's strange, people have told me that they have clicked on the ads, but when I go to my account at GoogleAds, it shows zero clicks. Not sure what's going on.

Plan B is to solicit small donations just for the maintenance of the site (domain registration, web host server space). My time, and the time of our other volunteers, is free, but I'd like to make the site self-sustaining. I'm trying to avoid this b/c I don't like asking for $$$.

Todd

Todd, I've clicked on the ads numerous times...hum. Please don't hesitate to ask for money. I wouldn't want this site to be a financial burden for you or for a few who already generously donate their time and experience. Annie
